Fingers crossed, the terrible weather we have been suffering from this winter has come and gone, and spring is now on its way, any way with the seasons becoming more and more unpredictable, and the weather more severe, you can never be sure.

For horse riders, the cold snap cannot leave fast adequate as they will no doubt be itching to get out riding again and enjoy the countryside with their equine companions. However, whilst you may be wrapping up warm with gloves and scarves for when you're out riding, and then going back home to your central heating and a warm drink, it's very distinct for the horse.

The horse is out in the same conditions as you, and due to their short fur, will in many cases feel the cold quite intensely. It is of vital significance that you ensure your horse remains warm and protected from the elements both when out riding, and back at the stable. If exposed to the cold for to long with nothing to keep them warm, like humans, they become very vulnerable to sicknesses such as equine influenza aka horse flu.

To avoid your horse getting ill, it is extremely advisable to get them wrapped up in the cold weather by purchasing them a horse rug. Horse rugs are blankets/coats which are tailored to fit around the horses body, from chest to rump, and furnish safety from wind, rain and cold, whilst still enabling the horse to be comfortable and move freely.

There are numerous distinct types of horse rug to suit distinct sizes, cover distinct areas, and for use in distinct weathers. There are even horse rugs exquisite for use in the summer, helping them to keep cool and furnish safety from flies, preventing irritating bites, or in other countries, insect borne viruses such as West Nile Virus.

Now, I'm not just naming nasty sounding diseases and conditions to scare you, and obviously things such as West Nile Virus are the very worst case scenario, any way it just backs up the case for horse rugs and the benefits they bring.

With it being early in the year, and with winter on its way out, now is the prime time for purchasing quality, competitively priced horse rugs with many being on sale, whether you're preparing for summer, next winter, or even next week, the safety and comfort of your horse is extremely foremost for both the horses and your own safety, so be sure to address the situation properly.
